What Chiropractors Need to Know About the October 1 Change

UnitedHealthcare (UHC) announced on September 1, 2026, that it will eliminate approximately 30% of its prior authorization requirements beginning October 1, 2026. The change is intended to reduce administrative work and remove barriers that can delay patient care. For chiropractors, there is a significant and specific change within UHC Medicare Advantage plans: beginning October 1, 2026, prior authorization will no longer be required for CPT codes 98940, 98941, and 98942 under the applicable UHC Medicare Advantage plans. This is an important change for chiropractic practices and UHC Medicare Advantage patients.
